Have You Ever Wondered Who Johny Was!?

via The Verge:

Like their more insidious counterparts, the makers of the “Johny, Johny” videos know full well that kids will watch literally anything with a catchy tune and bright colors, but unlike pregnant Elsa’s golden shower, there’s technically nothing inappropriate or wrong about the videos. Falling somewhere between the explicitly disturbing algorithm-evaders and adults playing with Thomas the Tank Engine, “Johny, Johny” is simply the opposite of ASMR for me. Whatever feelings ASMR videos are supposed to give you — the opposite of that. I’m angry, I’m confused, I’m sometimes physically uncomfortable, to the point where my back gets tingly, in a bad way. It’s so far beyond the scope of anything I consumed when I was their age, I’d like to believe this type of absurdist video never existed until now.

Seriously. One day my oldest and middle child started signing this absurd song and I thought it was from school but maybe they got caught in the YouTube inter webs. Bad papa!

For utterly inscrutable reasons, the format stuck with children’s content creators, and hundreds (if not thousands) of “Johny Johny, Yes Papa” knock-offs have been uploaded since. Each video features a child and their family lying to one another as a form of affection. And like game of telephone, each new video seems to lose even more meaning than the one before it, a feat that frankly seems impossible, given the videos are logically impoverished to begin with.

Ingenious...maybe. But sickening for sure. Lying is not funny or humorous.

Mammoth 2018 Day 2

I’m finally getting around to editing and post processing my videos. Enjoy! Day 3 Part 1 is also finished and I’ll link it here later today.

Waking up on Day 2 for a full day of skiing lessons for Norah and a half morning AM session for Benji. He decides to wail and throw an amazing temper tantrum so we get advised to maybe come back in the PM. He gets an amazing instructor named Heather who makes the whole experience even more exciting for us! Norah rides the Magic Carpet after lunch and is excelling while gaining confidence + new skiing buddies for life!

Mammoth Day 3 Part 1

Excited for day three, I ventured out with both Norah and Benji to get them going. Another full day of skiing lessons for Norah and a half morning AM session for Benji. This time around, Norah gets to be with two friends and Benji gets a different instructor which gives him pause. I get to finally hit up the slopes after a four year hiatus where myast trip was at Stowe Ski Resort with Matty P during my initial Captain upgrade at ASA. Good times then, great times today!

I spilt the day into two parts. The first segment is essentially me with friends followed by part two which includes Norah.

Mammoth 2018!

It was the first time since 2014 for myself and the first time as a family. The forecast was bleak showing temperatures in the high 8°F, cancelled flights days prior to our arrival and windy conditions but we were going to prevail. This would be Arden’s first flight and our first as a family of five and yes, we non-revved. It’s was beautiful! Going on a large trip with a bunch of friends just made the experience that much more memorable. Here’s a video of Day 1 with Days 2 through 4 in the works. I’m determined to go not only go back next year but to snowboard a lot more!

Tesla Model 3 Smokes V8's

We all knew the inevitable videos would start popping up of Tesla's Model 3 versus "insert car here." Being advertised as a 0-60 mph 5.0 car, we've seen that the Model 3s have all been outperforming that metric as Tesla is also known to under report their true performance numbers. Check it out down below!

Peppa Pig Tainted

A step beyond the simply pirated Peppa Pig videos mentioned previously are the knock-offs. These too seem to teem with violence. In the official Peppa Pig videos, Peppa does indeed go to the dentist, and the episode in which she does so seems to be popular — although, confusingly, what appears to be the real episode is only available on an unofficial channel. In the official timeline, Peppa is appropriately reassured by a kindly dentist. In the version above, she is basically tortured, before turning into a series of Iron Man robots and performing the Learn Colours dance. A search for “peppa pig dentist” returns the above video on the front page, and it only gets worse from here.

Disturbing Peppa Pig videos, which tend towards extreme violence and fear, with Peppa eating her father or drinking bleach, are, it turns out very widespread. They make up an entire YouTube subculture. Many are obviously parodies, or even satires of themselves, in the pretty common style of the internet’s outrageous, deliberately offensive kind. All the 4chan tropes are there, the trolls are out, we know this.

This is completely scary. Absolutely no more YouTube. Something is indeed wrong on the internet. Read the really long post. It's scary in all aspects.

The Fifth Generation Odyssey

Yea, so about that three car seat issue, looks like the Fifth Generation Honda Odyssey might still be the clear winner vs. a Tesla Model X. Maybe it’s time to trade-in our current Fourth Gen!

Takeaways: 40 more HP and an overall better ride.

Current issues include the Rear Entertainment System (RES) as mentioned on the Odyclub Forums.

side note: a friend at our daughter’s school has a Tesla Model X and just also bought a new 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Limited. Why? Better rates, 0% and deals as always on an American car. I’d still go Honda but that’s just me.
